The Central Library of the University of Larkano began its operations in 2010 and stands as a vital academic resource for students and faculty alike. Spanning an area of 5,092 square feet, this state-of-the-art facility is located at the Arija Campus, Larkano. The library project was graciously awarded in 2010 by the then President of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, as a gift to the students of Larkano Campus, symbolizing a commitment to higher education and knowledge development.
The Central Library currently holds a rich collection of 20,832 books, covering a wide range of disciplines including Engineering, Agriculture, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Management Sciences, and Technology. These resources are organized across various sections to facilitate easy access and in-depth learning. In addition to books, the library subscribes to a wide range of national and international research journals and periodicals, helping students stay updated with current affairs and the latest advancements in science and technology. All core functions of the Central Library, including cataloguing, classification, accessioning, and circulation, are fully automated. The library also offers OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) services for efficient search and retrieval of resources. To ensure security and proper management of materials, a modern 3M security system has been installed to detect unissued books. The Central Library continues to evolve as a modern knowledge hub, supporting academic excellence and research growth at the University of Larkano.
Reference Section
The Reference Section of the Central Library is exceptionally well-resourced, offering a valuable collection to support students and researchers. A copy of each newly acquired book is placed in this section for consultation purposes. Housed in a spacious and aesthetically designed hall, the reference area provides a comfortable and fully air-conditioned environment conducive to focused study. The collection includes renowned reference materials such as ASTM Standards, the Encyclopedia of Science and Technology, Encyclopedia Britannica, yearbooks, subject-specific encyclopedias, and a variety of academic dictionaries. These resources play a vital role in assisting students with their studies, research, and academic inquiries.
Book-Bank Scheme Section
The Book-Bank Scheme Section of the Central Library holds a total of 5,500 books available exclusively for students. Under this scheme, books are issued to students for the entire semester at a nominal rental charge—only 5% of the book's total price. This initiative is designed to support students by making essential academic resources affordable and easily accessible throughout the semester.
Students / Circulation Section
The Circulation Section is well-equipped with the latest books covering all major disciplines of engineering. Each student is entitled to borrow up to five (05) books at a time for a period of three months. This section plays a vital role in supporting students' academic needs by providing easy access to essential learning materials.
Thesis Section
The Thesis Section houses a collection of over 300 undergraduate theses, covering various academic disciplines. These theses are available for consultation and can be studied within the Reference Section. This valuable resource helps students enhance their understanding of research methodology and supports them in developing their own academic projects.
Online Catalogue (OPAC)
The Central Library is fully automated using the open-source library management software KOHA. The entire collection of library resources has been digitized and uploaded to the library database. Through the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), students and faculty can easily search, locate, and access information about available books and materials from anywhere on campus.
